Perforation Marks
You can add flexible perforation and folding marks in Imposition Wizard for simplifying post–printing processing.
In order to add the mark click the Plus button at the top of the Marks panel and select Perforation Marks in the popup menu.
Perforation Mark Properties
Perforation mark will be added to the layout and you will see its properties on the right (we made them a bit thicker, so you can easily see them on the screenshot):
The properties on the right are:
- Along — select the page side that used as a base for the marks (see below);
- Intervals — the distance(s) between the marks (see below);
- Margin — the distance between the pages’ edges and the marks;
- Length — the length of the marks;
- Width — the width (thickness) of the marks;
- Color — the color to use for drawing the marks;
- Print on — selects the side of the sheet to print the mark on;
- Outside marks only — allows to avoid placing marks between pages;
- Use dashed lines — allows switching between dotted and dashed lines;
- Flip on backs in duplex mode — allows flipping the marks horizontally if they are placed on backside of the sheet in duplex mode (to match the fronts).
Base Side
Perforation marks are added on both sides of the page and in order to select where to add them you define the “base” side. The marks will be parallel to that side and the marks at zero interval will form a line with that side.
The base side on the screenshot above is “Top”, so the marks are parallel to the top side of the page and go away of it when the Intervals parameter is increased.
Marks Intervals
Notice the Intervals is set to 10 on the screenshot, the units are millimeters and the marks are slightly below the top edge of the page. Let’s change the Intervals to 0:
The marks moved up and stay in line with the top edge. As the interval is zero, the marks stay right next to their base side. Let’s change it to “Bottom”:
The marks are now at the bottom at zero distance from the bottom edge. Let’s now change the Intervals back to 10:
The marks moved up a bit and are now 10mm away of the bottom edge. You got the idea.
Now the next trick: change the Intervals parameter to 10 10:
Note the other pair of marks is added. As you put two numbers in the Intervals field, Imposition Wizard adds two pair of marks instead of one.
Here’s how it works: the initial mark position is zero. You did that above. Now if you put anything in the Intervals section instead of zero, it is added to zero and a pair of marks is placed there. If you put another number after that, it is added to the previous one and another pair of marks is placed, and so on.
The Intervals value of 10 10 means “add a mark at 10mm offset, then add 10mm to that and place another mark at 20mm”.
Here’s another example:
The Intervals field has “0 10 20” which means “put a mark right along the bottom line, then another 10mm away and one more 30mm away”.
Hints
You can add more than one perforation mark elements to the layout, if you need some of them based on one side and some — on the other.
